Authentic Texas BBQ Rooted in Family and Tradition

At Massey’s BBQ, our story is built on family, tradition, and a deep love for authentic Texas barbecue.

Our journey began in June of 2018 when we opened our first location in Alvarado, Texas. What started as a passion for great barbecue quickly grew into something bigger as our community embraced the slow-smoked flavors and welcoming atmosphere we work hard to create every day.

In 2022, we expanded and opened our second location inside the Shell gas station in Cleburne next to Cleburne Ford, allowing us to share our barbecue with even more folks across Johnson County. Today, we’re excited to continue growing and are currently in the process of opening our Granbury location just off the historic downtown square.

But Massey’s BBQ is more than just a restaurant — it’s a family legacy.

Our love for barbecue was shaped by our late Terry Massey, who taught us everything we know about cooking great BBQ. From the way we tend the pits to the spices and rubs we use, his influence is still at the heart of everything we do. Our seasonings and recipes are carefully crafted from the traditions and techniques he passed down to us, and we carry that knowledge forward every single day.

Massey’s BBQ is proudly family owned and operated by father and son, Todd and Dakota Massey. Our kids have grown up right alongside the business — from early mornings helping around the pit to late nights closing down the restaurant. BBQ isn’t just our job; it’s our way of life.

Our family also has a strong background in raising cattle, which gives us a deep respect for the quality and care that goes into producing great beef. We understand the importance of the product we serve and take pride in honoring it with the time, patience, and tradition that true Texas barbecue requires.

Community is just as important to us as great food. When you walk into Massey’s BBQ, you’ll see local hometown jerseys and helmets hanging proudly in the restaurant, celebrating the schools, teams, and communities we’re proud to be part of. We believe in supporting our neighbors, showing up for our towns, and creating a place where people can gather, share a meal, and feel at home.

From the very beginning, our motto has remained the same:

“Where Families Gather Together.”

Because at the end of the day, barbecue is about more than just food — it’s about bringing people together around the table.

And around here, we live by one more rule:

The West wasn’t won on salad… EAT BEEF.
